Port Lixus (Khemis Sahel)

Perceived as a real balcony which gets a view of the Atlantic Ocean , and being a backdrop for the town of Larache, Lixus' seaside resort/station is only 80 km far from Tangier, a mythical city (which is) at the edge of Europe . It is located at the foot of the archeological site of Lixus, a Phoenician city which gives its name to this area/station.


Site

The area of Lixus stretches over more than 461 ha, on the plateau of Khemis Sahel. Being characterized by several virgin beaches, this area posseses both a coastal and "fluvial" façade. It is also covered with a splendid forested massif of dunes, and surrounded by a back country of farm hills.

Developer

The development of Lixus's seaside resort is entrusted to the Group Thomas and Piron SA, l'Atelier SA et Ocro.

Program

Being oriented towards "well-being, health and nature", Lixus' seaside resort will offer a wide variety of products likely to entertain the most demanding visitors: discovery of nature, fitness, activities related to golf, hunting, riding, and guided tours in the archeological site of Lixus, as well as in the medina of Larache etc. With a capacity of 12000 beds, including 7500 hotel beds and 4500 residential beds, this seaside resort will be equipped with two golf courses of 18 holes each, a forested park, a marina of 120 trade rings and a fitness centre.

Project

The total amount of investment :
  Planning: 1,40 billion DH;
  Direct investment: 0,56 billion DH;
  Investment of other "promotors": 3,30 billion DH;
  Investment concerning off-site infrastructures: 0,207 billion DH.

Key-dates :
  Convention signature: October 15, 2004;
  Launching of work : Febraury 2006;
  Opening of the first hotel : Summer 2008.

    5 phases spread over 9 years.
