Tourism Observatory card
In accordance of the provisions of article 26 of the Framework Agreement and article 49 of its Implementation Agreement, the National Federation of Tourism and the Tourism Ministry have decided to create an Observatory of Tourism.
The main objective of the Observatory is to observe the national tourist economy, through the development and publication of reliable and relevant information.
Besides being an essential part of watch and piloting system of the 2010 Vision, the Observatory is an instrument designed for orientation and promotion of tourist development.
Serving as a reinforcement of the existing public or private system, the Observatory will also contribute to encourage tourist investments and to reassure the distribution of credits by the banking system.
The Observatory’s main missions are focused on the collection, the treatment and the publication of all useful information on the tourist sector , and in particular the national and international situation, the competition, the destination’s competitiveness, and especially the norms of exploitation and investments of hotel units.
The Observatory, by the quality of its founding members, is one of the authorities which will generate a flourishing public-private partnership on which is based the new tourist policy... For that purpose, it is governed by the common rules and procedures of the good governance of the private sector.
The Observatory of Tourism was created on February 9, 2005, in which year the Constituent General Assembly was held, adopting thus the Observatory’s statutes and designating the Board of directors.
The Tourism Observatory is managed by a Board of directors composed of (16) members, (6) of whom are representatives of the Administration and (10) are representatives of the National Federation of Tourism. The President of the Tourism Observatory is designated by the Board of directors at the instigation of the National Federation of Tourism.
During its last Meeting (7mars 2005), the Board of directors adopted the action plan of the year 2005 which consists mainly of the implementation of three studies:
- Census and study of investments and exploitation costs of graded tourist accommodation establishments;
- Updating of the Tourism Satellite Account;
- Setting up of a web site of the Observatory and a tourist information network.
