Tourists' arrivals at the frontier posts in June: +18% rise
At the end of June 2008, the tourists' arrivals at the frontier posts showed a +18% rise, compared with the same month of the previous year. The volume of overnight stays recorded during that month at classified tourist accommodation establishments indicated a slight drop of -1%.
During that month of June, the major tourist destinations revealed sharply contrasting results: some drops at the level of overnight stays recorded in Marrakech, Agadir and Tetouan (respectively -4%, -5% and -9% ), some rises for Casablanca (+11%) and Rabat (+9%) and a stabilization as regards the towns of Tangier, Fez and Ouarzazate.
The analysis per generating market reveals that the decrease in terms of overnight stays recorded (-1% compared with June 2007) is due, to a large extent, to the negative results reflected in the leading markets: France (-4%), the United Kingdom (-16%), Germany (-5%), Belgium (-15%) and Italy (-10%).
The overnight stays generated by the domestic market have shown a slight decrease of -1%.
