The Tourism Department presents its 2008-2012 action plan
During a press conference held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the headquarters of the Tourism Department, Mr. Mohamed BOUSSAID announced that the number of tourists who visited Morocco in 2007 reached 7,45 million tourists, that is a +13% increase compared with 2006.
Mr. BOUSSAID has put much emphasis on the importance of tourism which is now considered as the most important vehicle for investment and job opportunities in the Kingdom, as well as a real driving force of economic development, contributing, in a direct way, up to 8 pc in the GDP.
This dynamics which has been set in motion by the 2010 Vision has given more visibility to the economic operators and to all national and foreign partners ; and it has also created a general mobilization around the national tourist strategy characterized by its precise outlines and objectives, the Minister added.
Since 2001, the sector has been established as a national priority, creating a tremendous rallying dynamics at both quantitative and qualitative levels.
The Minister has noted that in a spirit of continuity and acceleration of the realization of different building sites of the national tourist strategy, the Tourism Department sets itself the goal of achieving five priorities for the period 2008-2012 . They are centred around: the achievement of the building-sites of the 2010 Vision, training, tourism trades, quality as well as the environment of the sector and of the 2010 Vision.
