HM the King presides over the signature ceremony of a convention for the development of a tourist resort in Ifrane.
On Friday April 18, 2008 , His Majesty the King Mohammed VI presided over the signature ceremony of a convention relating to the planning and development of a new tourist resort in Ifrane by the Moroccan-Kowaiti Consortium for Development (CMKD) with an overall cost of 346 million dirhams.
The new tourist resort of Ifrane, which is in line with the Biladi project intended to promote domestic tourism, will be built on a surface area of 30 hectares with an overall accommodation capacity of 700 beds as tourist residences and 4000 beds in the form of camping sites, besides residences intended for tourism with a capacity of 450 beds.
The Biladi plan provides for the establishment of eight new tourist resorts at the level of the most attractive destinations, that is to say Marrakech, Casablanca , El Jadida, Agadir, Essaouira, Tangier, Fez and Kenitra.
Launched in July 2007, this ambitious program has been assigned the priority to meet the Moroccan tourist's expectations and target more particularly people on middle incomes. It aspires to bring the welcome capacity, at the national level, to 9 million overnight stays by the year 2012, against 2,6 million tourist nights in 2003.
These eight resorts, having an overall accommodation capacity of 19 000 beds in the form of camping sites and 11 000 beds as tourist residences, will permit to generate 3000 direct jobs and 12 000 indirect ones.
They are intended to promote the sector of domestic tourism which will contribute up to 20pc to the total of overnight stays recorded at the national level.
The Province Ifrane, which stretches over a surface area of 3.573 square metres , is a tourist destination par excellence; it is noted for its undeniable potentialities and its very rare assets made up of a natural bio-diversity (natural and artificial lakes), a varied vegetation (cedar, gable) and of exceptional shelters.
