The new Vision should be part of the continuity process, and based on the lessons drawn from the experience of the last six years as well as ensure a closer connection of the national tourist sector with the other economic and social sectors such as handicraft, culture, agriculture and natural resources ” End of the extract
As a result, on Friday April 25 th , 2008, Mr Mohamed Boussaid, the Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, presided over - at the headquarters of the Tourism Department- the meeting of the Steering Committee for the launching of the 2020 Vision for the tourism sector.
This study, jointly conducted by the Tourism Department and the National Federation of Tourism, requires the mobilization and the contribution of all the stakeholders from both the public and private sector, considering the transverse dimension of the tourism sector.
As such, this working session took place in the presence of Mr Salaheddine Mezouar, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mrs Amina Benkhadra, the Minister of Energy, Mining, Water Resources and Environment as well as several representatives of the Ministerial Departments, more particularly the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Housing, Town Planning and Space Management, the Ministry of Equipment and Transport, the Ministry of Economic and General Affairs, the Ministry for Water Resources and Environment, the High Commissariat for Planning, the High Commissariat for Forestry Authority and the Tourism Moroccan National Office.
The 2010 Vision has led to an important process for the development of the sector which has recorded positive results at the level of investment, air transport and promotion. These advances have been reflected in the noticeable tourist performances, particularly in terms of arrivals which rose by 12% in 2007 with 7,4 million visitors.
In a logic of continuity process, Morocco expects to acquire a strategic approach likely to provide a long-term vision of the tourist sector by the year 2020, through the creation of a sound, differentiated, varied and well-balanced offer.
The 2020 vision has been drawn up to consolidate the achievements of the 2010 vision, but it will adopt an upward approach based more on quality than quantity. It will be established from the tourist territorial purposes and it will come up with tourist, regional developments plans.
This vision will take into consideration the situation of the international demand and competition on this horizon and it will take into account the requirements of a sustainable and responsible tourism, that which preserves our natural and cultural resources.
he area of the 2020 Vision will be conducted by a multidisciplinary team gathering the Tourism Department, the ONMT and the National Federation of Tourism; and it will be accompanied by Booz Allen Hamilton International Cabinet, designated in response to the international invitation to tender launched in December 2007.
