More than13 million DH for Casablanca 's promotion
The annual budget allocated for the promotion of Casablanca destination has more than doubled: it has passed from 6 ,6 million DH to 13,4 million DH. For that purpose, a convention was signed on March 23, 2009 in Casablanca by the Managing Director of the ONMT and the President of Casablanca's CRT, approving a supplementary budget estimated at 6 ,8 million DH ( which complements a commitment of 6,6 million DH granted annually to the city), within the framework of Cap 2009 policy implemented by the Tourism Ministry to contain the impact of the international financial crisis on the sector.
This global budget will be mainly allocated for strengthening better communications at the level of the metropolis and promoting its tourist assets. This amount will also concern the promotion of new projects intended to enhance Casablanca 's offer (ledges, marina etc….), the reform of the sales platforms, the establishment of “ Morocco convention Bureau”, the targeting of certain tourist-generating markets (Eastern bloc country and Middle East ) as well as the promotion of domestic tourism.
This promotion campaign of Casablanca destination will undoubtedly rouse the interest of the Moroccan nationals resident abroad (MRE); and it will also concern the organisation of study tours for the prescribers ( travel agencies and TO), the consolidation of business and cruise tourism, the putting in place of kiosks and the intensification of communication through the internet.
In a statement, on that occasion, Mr Mohamed Boussaid , Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, has emphasized the fact that tourism, a growth generating activity and a huge employment deposit, is everyone's business : administrative authorities, elected bodies, professionals and local authorities.
Casablanca city abounds with enormous potentialities which need to be highlighted and rationally exploited, indicated the Minister, “specifying that the metropolis has achieved, in a period of crisis, an 11% rise of overnight stays and an increase of 10% in terms of arrivals, that is more than the national average.
For his part, Mr Mohamed Halab , Wali of the region of the Grand Casablanca, has said that “everything will be done in order to reinforce the tourist capacities of the economic capital”.
The forthcoming development of town planning program will give a new impetus to the construction of tourist facilities” he added “saying that besides hotels, palais des congrès and a marina, several golf courses will be established in the region, more particularly in Bouskoura and Dar Bouazza .
During that meeting in which took part the presidents of the elected bodies, presidents and members of the professional associations, representatives of the delegations concerned as well as a certain number of executives coming under the Ministry and the ONMT, some promotion actions were presented in 2008 along with the outlines of the action plan of 2009.
The participants have also discussed the assessment of both the implementation of the 2012 Vision and the Tourist Regional Development Program (PDRT) of the economic capital, strategies which aim to lay the foundations for the promotion of the economic and social development of the city and to turn Casablanca into a metropolis of international stature.
