The Minister of Tourism and Handicraft in favour of the development of the activities of travel agencies
On May 23, 2009, Mr Mohamed Boussaid, Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, called for the development of the activities of travel agencies so that they might contribute to the introduction of a forward-looking vision of tourism in Morocco .
In his speech made at the opening session of the 3rd national Conference in Oujda, Mr Boussaid indicated that his Department has started a project intended to reform this sector, to revise the texts governing travel agencies and to put in place the mechanisms necessary for their restructuring and their support so that they may be in tune with a rapidly changing tourism market.
In this respect, the Minister has said that a debate on travel agencies will be launched within the framework of a participatory approach between the Ministry of Tourism and the National Federation of Travel Agencies in Morocco , expressing the wish to see these agencies become more competitive and more profitable, thus contributing to the development of the tourist sector.
Besides being very pleased to see that Oujda is hosting this conference, the Minister has pointed out that the Oriental region, which has at its disposal a great deal of integrated and promising development programs, will witness - next month- the opening of the fist stage/portion of Saidia's seaside resort.
Considered as part and parcel of the “AZUR PLAN”, this project will reinforce the balance of the “2010 Vision” which has led to some satisfactory results at the level of the increase in arrivals and overnight stays, as well as in terms of the joint mobilization of both public and private sectors.
