Berlin
: Investment opportunities in the Moroccan tourism sector
14-03-2010

” The significant potential of the Moroccan tourism sector bears witness to the interest of international investors in Morocco ” said the Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, Mr. Yassir Znagui.

In a statement to the MAP, alongside the International Tourism Trade-fair of Berlin (ITB), which opened its doors on Wednesday, and in the light of his meetings with the tourism professionals in Germany, Mr Znagui has referred to "the great enthusiasm for the Moroccan tourist products, considered as a market of a tremendous potential for investment.”

“The Moroccan tourism sector is based on strong foundations, which have allowed it to be among the few countries that witnessed an increase in the number of arrivals in 2009, despite the international economic and financial crisis” said the Minister.

” The number of tourists who visited Morocco in 2009 increased by more than 6 per cent, a performance which has not been recorded in the competing markets in the regions surrounding the Mediterranean” he said.

The Minister has also said that he expects an improvement in the number of Germans visiting Morocco to support the upcoming launch of two new direct air lines, Berlin-Casablanca and Munich -Marrakech, adding that the German market is strategic for Morocco; hence the special priority given by the Kingdom (to such a market) in terms of sales and marketing.

The Moroccan National Office of Tourism (MNOT) aims at a growth of 5% in 2010, both in terms of arrivals of German tourists (184,000 visitors) and overnight stays (948,822 overnights stays).

In addition, Mr. Znagui has held a meeting with Mr. Klaus Laepple, President of the German Federation of Tourism (DRV) and the Federation of Tourism Industry (BTW), devoted to examining opportunities of investments in Morocco and the possibility of developing tourist flows from the German Market, on the basis of Agadir meeting held on November 24 - 28 2010 of the 66 th annual conference of the RVD, which plays a lead role in shaping and directing the Market of Tourism in Germany.

This conference will constitute a key lever for the promotion of Morocco destination in the German market, estimated the delegation of the MNOT in Dusseldorf .

Morocco participates in the International Tourism Trade-fair of Berlin by about a twenty of exhibitors representing the Regional Councils of Tourism (RCT), tourism professionals and travel agencies.
