Taghazout's seaside resort : The Consortium Colony Capital- Satocan-Lopesan is ranked first.
Further to the international Invitation to Tender launched by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy for the planning and the development of Taghazout's station (one of the six stations of the Azur Plan), the Consortium which is made up of the american investor, Colony Capital, and some operators of the Canary Islands, Satocan-Lopesan, has obtained the best assessment, as regards the whole criteria required for this consortium.
In accordance with rules and regulations of the invitation to tender, this consortium will be thus the first one to be invited to enter into negociations with the moroccan State, with a view to concluding a convention concerning the development of this station.
However, there will be no guarantee as regards the culmination of negociations and the real attribution of the station to this consortium. The State, which has already received two other "invitations to tender" from important Consortiums considered to be of quality and according to the rules, will resort to the "offer" which is ranked second in case of non culmination of negociations with Colony Capital-Satocan-Lopesan.
It is worth noting that the regulations of the Invitation to tender indicate that each invitation remains valid 6 months with effect from the date of the opening of envelopes.
The Colony Capital, which is specialized in tourism and property, is an institutional investor whose headquarters are set up in Los Angeles .
It owns, among others, the station of the "Costa Smeralda" in Sardinia , the asian luxury hotel chain : Raffles as well as numerous luxury hotels and tourist unit or real estate.
The Satocan Lopesan Group is the undisputed leader of tourism in the Canary Islands . The group is vertically integrated : construction, hotel trade, air transport (Air Binter) and Tour Operating. It has control of about 20.000 hotel beds in the Canary Islands , in Spain and in the Dominican Republic .
The planning project concerning Taghazout's station plans to build an accommodation capacity of about 21.000 beds, including around 16.000 hotel beds, as well as 2 golf courses and several projects related to leisure, entertainment, and handicraft trade. The schedule fixed by the State is the starting up of the construction work at the end of the current month and the opening of the first hotel capacity right from 2008 onwards.
The objective of this project is to create about 9.000 direct jobs and 45000 indirect ones.
