Mr Jettou chairs at Rabat the Strategic Committee of Tourism meeting

The Prime minister, Mr. Driss Jettou, chaired on Thursday March the 2d the Strategic Committee of Tourism (CST) meeting .

The progress of the project concerning the local tax system reform, the legislative texts and particularly bills on tourist real estate, as well as the new regulation of the travel agencies, of the guides and accompanists, was on the agenda of this meeting.

This meeting, which has regrouped the government's members, the responsibles of the ministerial departments concerned and the professionals of the sector, has permitted to take stock of the building sites progress set up for this purpose.

At the end of the meeting, the minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social economy, Mr. Adil Douiri, indicated that this meeting was the opportunity to sum up the progress report of the different building sites set up in the field of the "2010 vision" aiming to reach the objective of 10 millions tourists, and of the ambitious tourist strategy of the Kingdom.

The minister added that this meeting was also the opportunity to define the priorities for the year 2006 and to examine the different bills related notably to travel agencies and to the guides and tourist accompanists.

The minister has, otherwise, indicated that the tourist receipts have showed in January 2006" greatly encouraging results" with an increase of 25 pc with regard to the same month of 2005.

As for the president of the Tourism Federation, Mr. Jalil Benabbès Taarji, he indicated that "the 2010 vision is more and more believable", and that the very encouraging results recorded in 2005 and in the beginning of 2006 testify to this fact.

He also indicated that the permanent support brought by the state to the sector is a considerable acquirement that will permit to lead the building sites of the 2010 vision.

The president of the National Federation of the Hotel industry, Mr. Abderrahim Oummani, considered this meeting as "constructive"; a meeting that has permitted to examine notably, the progress of the project of the local tax system reform.

"We arrived to very satisfactory results in this matter", he said, underlining that several bills have also been examined for the upgrading of the sector and the realization of the "2010 vision" objectives.
