His Majesty the King launches the construction work of Casablanca 's marina

On March, 27 ,2006 His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, inaugrated the construction work of Casablanca 's Marina and presided the signature of three conventions relating to the regional tourist development of the economic capital.

On that occasion, the King followed an exposé presented by Mr Adil Douiri , the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy on the regional, tourist development program of Casablanca . This program, which is in line with the " Mada'in Plan", aims to define the objectives of the destination's development (at a given horizon) and to put in place an action plan organized into a hierarchy to achieve such objectives.

The regional, tourist development program of Casablanca includes also the objectives set forth within the framework of the "2010 Vision" which aims notably to develop a varied hotel offer of quality, to rehabilitate the spiritual dimension of Casablanca destination, to put in place infrastructures and equipment designed for conferences and exhibitions, while improving in general, the urban quality of the destination.

This ambitious program will lead, by the year 2012, to the construction of 10.000 additional beds and the creation of 30.000 jobs, 25.000 of which are direct.

Afterwards, the King followed some explanations on the Marina project of Casablanca presented by Mr Mustapha BAKKOURI, the Managing Director of the C.D.G and which is in line with an ambitious project stretching over 24 ha and aiming to rehabilitate the economic capital of Morocco .

A budget which comes to 5 billion dirhams , (1 ,5 of which subsidized by the State) has been allocated to this project whose work will be carried out by the year 2010. Such a project is centred around the construction of hotel units, offices, accommodation and trade and leisure spaces.

Then, His Majesty the King presided the signature ceremony of three conventions relating to the regional, tourist development program of the economic capital.

The first convention is about the regional, tourist development program of the city, a project which requires about 8 billion DH.

This convention is centred around the means which are likely to develop Casablanca destination, to strengthen the resources of the Tourism Regional Council (CRT), with a view to following up t he regional tourist development program of the city (PDRT), improv ing the urban quality , and creat ing some equipments designed for conferences and exhibitions, while making the promotion of the destination by means of communication campaigns.

This regional tourist development program, which is in line with the 2010 Vision aims to make of Casablanca a big m etropolis, by establishing a diagnosis of the assets to be explo i ted and the challenges to be taken up and by proposing a global and voluntary action plan. This convention was signed by the Prime Minister, the Wali of the region of the "Grand Casablanca", the P resident of the region's Council, the P resident of the urban "Commune" , the P resident of the prefectural Council and by the president of the CRT.*

The second convention , which is about the Marina project of Casablanca , was signed by the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Finance and Privatization, the Minister of Equipment and Transportation , the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy , the Minister of Industry, Trade and the updating of the Economy, the Minister of State for the Administration of the National D efence, the Minister of State for the Economic and General Affairs and the m anaging Director of the CDG.

The third convention, which is centred around the realization of projects accompanying the Marina project of Casablanca , aims to improve the architectural quality of the city, the updating of both Casa-Port station and the port, the re-development of the avenue of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the regional "Reforestation" and the planning of a green belt. This convention was signed by the President of the urban Commune of Casablanca and the managing Director of the CDG.

As soon as H is Majesty the King had arrived to the site, a detachment of the Royal Guard honoured H im ; and H e was then greeted by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Finance and Privatization, the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Equipment and Transportation, the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy, the Minister of Industry, Trade and the updating of the Economy, the Minister of State for the Administration of the National Defence, the Minister of State for the Economic and General Affairs and by the Wali of the region of the Grand Casablanca.

His Majesty the King was also greeted by the " gouverneur " of the prefecture of arrondissements of Casablanca, the "commandant" of the Parade Ground, the President of the urban Commune of Casablanca, the President of the prefectural Council, the P resident of Sidi Belyout's arrondissement, the managing Director of the CDG, and by the P resident of the CRT.
