Mr Adil Douiri inaugurates the Institute of traditional arts and launches the work of the handicraft chamber of Marrakech
Mr Adil Douiri, the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy, inaugurated the Institute of traditional arts and professional training on 19 April in Marrakech, and he launched the construction work of the chamber of handicraft.
The Institute of traditional arts, which opened in September 2005, is called upon to play a key role in the training and the updating of human resources, the maintenance of art's traditional trades and the development of the handicraft sector.
Being built on an area of 3.100 square metre, this Institute which has a welcome capacity of 160 places, gives a training in fields of activity such as woodwork (wrought joinery work ), metal (wrought iron work) and leather (art leather craftsmanship).
The teaching of a fourth course of study will be planned, at the technician level, for the school year 2006-2007, in order to allow students to specialize in tapestry (furniture trade).
The Handicraft Department considers the professional training today as a major instrument of the promotion of the sector, the protection of the cultural identity, the transmission of an authentic know-how and of the adjustment to the qualitative and aesthetic requirements of the world market.
The access to this institute, whose realization cost is in the order of 13,3 million DH and which ensures a qualitative training at Qualification and Technician levels, is carried out by means of a competitive examination as well as orientation.
(Training provided is spread over 2 years, with a day pupil system).
It is two-year study period, recognized by a diploma of Technician or a diploma of Qualification.
Marrakech's Chamber of Handicraft whose construction has been launched by Mr Adil Douiri, will be achieved in 2007; and the realization cost comes to 5 million DH. This building will be constructed on an area of 1500 square metre.
The inauguration ceremony concerning both the Institute of the traditional arts and the Chamber of Handicraft took place in the presence of M. Mounir Chraibi, the Wali of the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz Region, and M. Omar Jazouli, the mayor of the city.
