On may 19, 2006, Morocco and South Korea signed a cooperation agreement in the field of tourism, as well as a PV concerning the 4 th session of the joint committee of economic and technical cooperation which was co-presided in Rabat by Mr Salaheddine Mezouar, the Minister of Industry, Trade and the Updating of Economy and his South-Korean counterpart, Mr Kim Hyng Chong.

The cooperation agreement in the field of tourism is intended mainly to make the South Korean partners more aware of the advantages of tourist investment in Morocco and to allow Tourism Department to draw on the Korean expertise and know-how in the field of the technologies of information and the strategic planning by means of technical training.

The two parties, who were very pleased about the climate of friendship and cordiality which characterized that session, looked into the assessement of bilateral relations, the promotion of trade and investment and the sectorial cooperation in terms of maritime fishing, cadastral tourism, and the new technologies of information (NTIC), without necessarily forgetting to discuss the axes and objectives of the national initiative of human development (INDH).

In addition, they talked about the cultural cooperation, the legal framework as well as the financial and technical cooperation, and more particularly about the public foreign aid, and the technical and tripartite cooperation.

Mr Salaheddine Mezouar, who attended the opening session of such an event, considered it necessary to "think about the appropriateness of the free trade Agreement between Morocco and South Korea, considering the geographical positions of the two countries, the complementarity of their economy, as well as the possible impact of such an agreement on the acceleration of the rhythm of exchanges and investment.

After reminding the audience of the ambition of the Moroccan executive to make of the Kingdom an attractive regional platform of investment, production and exportation, the Minister enticed the business men of both countries to show the most initiatives and imagination in order to boost our exchanges and take respective advantage of our obvious complementarities.

For his part, the Korean Minister was very pleased about the process of reforms undertaken by Morocco in the field of liberalization and deregulation, putting much emphasis on the will of his country to support the Moroccan Government in its efforts and to make it benefit from the Korean experience in this field.
