M. Jettou chairs the signature of two partnership agreements with the airline company Ryanair and the Airport Marketing Services operator
29-05-2006

On Thursday the 25 th May 2006 , the Prime Minister, M. Driss Jettou chaired, in the office of his department, the ceremony of signature of two partnership agreements between the Moroccan authorities and the leaders of the airline company at low cost Ryanair as well as the operator "Airport Marketing Services".

The first agreement , concerning the airport and aeronautical aspects, was signed respectively by the Minister of Equipment and Transport, M. Karim Ghellab, the General Director of the Airports National office, M. Abdelhanine Benallou and M. Michael CAWLEY, President of Ryanair.

The second agreement , related to the promotion of the Morocco destination through e-marketing services, was signed respectively by the General Director of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, M. Abbas Azzouzi and the leaders of the company "Airport Marketing Services" who have the exclusive licence to ensure the promotion and the marketing of the web site of Ryanair voyages.

These agreements come to materialize:

  • the policy of liberalization of air transport in Morocco, carried out since the beginning of 2004 and completed by the paraph on the 14th December 2005 , of the open sky agreement between Morocco and the European Union the entry into effect of which is envisaged during 2006, will create important opportunities for the international services of air transport between Morocco and the European Union, in particular the point-to-point service road at low cost.
  • the new inciting measurements of the Moroccan airports, announced at the end of March 2006 in the 6th International Assises of Tourism in Tangier aim at the development of the direct air service of tourist destinations. It is to be underlined, in this respect, that the new airport tariffing grants, in a non-discriminatory way, to all airline companies, progressive reductions on the airport royalties which, henceforth, vary according to the volume of activity realized by the companies mentioned above and which support the under-served airports.
  • the new e-marketing strategy announced by Morocco, which wil l allow, through the promotion of Morocco in the web sites leaders of the trave l industry, to gain a very important potential of new segments of tourism individual customers (in opposition to the package tours customers), looking for, particularly, the cultural product ,and the short stay product, and privileging the voyage purchase by the Internet channel.

This strategy completes the Co-marketing strategy with Tours Operators and voyages networks; it is established by the MNTO and aims at the package tours customers segment.

Under the terms of the 1st agreement, Ryanair is committed to bring a regular air service road, point-to-point, into operation, at the end of October 2006, at the outset of European airports towards the Moroccan tourist destinations. These engagements consist of increasing air capacity, going from 14 frequencies per week the first year (101.000 tourists in 2006-2007), to 63 frequencies per week at the end of the fifth year ( 464.000 tourists in 2011-2012).

The second agreement, between the MNTO and the Airport Marketing Services company, having an exclusive right of promotion and marketing of the site www.ryanair.com , consists of the promotion of Morocco and in particular the destinations which will be served, through a certain number of e-marketing tools and communication campaigns on Internet.

The www.ryanair.com site is classified first in the category of the voyage sites , with nearly 200 million clicks per month. So the promotion of the Moroccan tourist destinations on this site should drain a share of the customers who program directly their voyage (plane ticket, hotel, hiring of cars, etc.) on the Net. This potential is all the more important as several million travellers buy each year their voyage through the site "www.ryanair.com ".
