The Daily Telegraph says that « the opening of the Moroccan sky is in line with the dynamic vision of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI"
10-07-2006

In its edition of July 8, the Daily Telegraph, the British daily, said that the decision to open the Moroccan sky is part of the dynamic vision of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI , intending to make of Morocco an important tourist destination which could compete with countries such as Spain , Greece and Turkey ..

According to the British daily, the Azur Plan constitutes the mainstay of the 2010 Vision characterized by a challenge which defies imagination : it is about the six seaside tourism resorts (stations) which are in the process of being built on the Atlantic and the Mediterranean coast of Morocco .

As the daily said, besides the first flight from Gatwick (South of London) to Marrakech on board the British "Easyjet", the biggest European low-cost operator, other airlines like Thomsonfly and "Jet 4 you" will carry out similar flights towards Morocco.

The British daily added that the Raynair airline will also launch 20 flights from Europe towards Morocco , insofar as the latter witnesses a growing development characterized by the big construction sites that will be realized in several towns such as Dakhla, Ouarzazate, Rabat , Essaouira and Tangier.

Some huge building plots are now in the process of being developed in order to build golf courses, lakes, marinas, villas, restaurants; on top of the 50 luxury hotels and certain riads that must double Morocco 's accommodation capacity.

The British daily noted that the Moroccan new beaches will have to stretche from Saidia on the Mediterranean coast till the white beach at the South of Essaouira on the Atlantic , without necessarily forgetting to emphasize the extension and improvement of its regional airports roads and railways.

It also said that some new tourist attractions are in the process of being constructed in Marrakech, Fez and Casablanca , alluding to the will of Morocco to build a tunnel which links Morocco to Spain .

The daily added that by implementing such an ambitious program, Morocco aspires to attract 10 million tourists by the year 2010.

It said that this economic thinking, which reflects the above mentioned projects, remains pertinent, insofar as tourism seems to be an essential vehicle for growth.

It is worth noting, concluded the daily, that such development projects will generate 600.000 new jobs.
