Regional Seminar of the WTO in Tangier : « Role of tourism sustainable development in the poverty alleviation

The World Tourism Organization (WTO), together with Tourism Department organized a regional seminar centred around the role of sustainable development of tourism in the poverty alleviation.

Such a meeting, which is in line with the special program of the WTO, and which is designed for tourist development of the sub-Saharan Africa, was held from 5 th to 7 th July 2006, at the International Higher Institute for Tourism of Tangier (ISITT).

The activities of this regional seminar, in which took part different representatives of several countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, revolved around 3 axes :

• Tourism trends in the developing countries;
• Concepts, methodologies and the major approaches which are likely to increase the contribution of tourism in the poverty alleviation;
• Case studies ( Gambia, Kenya etc.)/ Case of Chefchaouen as regards Morocco.

The organization of this seminar in Morocco consolidates the Kingdom's positioning in the field of tourism development.
