Signature of the specific convention relating to the development of cruise tourism in Casablanca .

The Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy and Mr Kabbaj, the Wali of the Region of the Grand Casablanca, presided over the signature ceremony of the specific convention relating to the development of cruise tourism in Casablanca .

This convention, which has just been signed by the President of the Council of Casablanca's Urban Commune, Casablanca's Chief Commissioner of police, the Director of Exploitation of Casablanca's Port as well as the President of the Tourism Regional Council of Casablanca, aims to be used as a reference framework concerning different actions to be undertaken by all the signatory partners for the development of cruise tourism in Casablanca's port, and that is all with a view to attracting 400.000 cruise passengers by the year 2015.

This specific convention is also intended to precise the rights and the obligations and to define the engagements relating to each one of the parties in terms (i) of the organization, infrastructures and improvements of the port and the city's tourist sites , (i) of the provision of services related to the cruise activities whether they are inside or outside the port, (iii) of the safety and cleanliness within the port compound and in the city, more particularly in the tourist sites and the circuits chosen by the cruise passengers and (iv) of the promotion and marketing of Casablanca's destination, with a view to developing cruise activities in the region of Casablanca and to allowing the port to be declared "escale attache" par excellence by the year 2015.

In accordance with the provisions of this specific convention, a regional follow- up committee is created, under the aegis of the Wali. This committee will set itself the goal of putting into place and following the implementation of the convention's terms as regards the above mentioned engagements.

s a reminder, a framework convention relating to the development of cruise tourism in Morocco was signed, under the presidency of Mr Adil Douiri, the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy on May, 3, 2005 between the Port Exploitation Office, the Moroccan National Office of Tourism, the Professional Association of Shipping Agents, consignees of boats and ship-brokers of Morocco, the Association of Shipping-Agents, consignees of ships and Stevedores and the National Federation of Travel Agencies in Morocco
