The State offers innovative models of traditional jewels to the craftsmen/jewelers of Tiznit
Within the framework of the national strategy of Handicraft, 2015 Vision, and in parallel to the programs intended for medium and big-sized enterprises, a certain number of actions are scheduled in favour of urban and rural single-craftsmen in order to increase their income by means of increasing their selling prices.
The State wishes to make sure that the models produced by these craftsmen are fitted for the taste of the customers having a high purchasing power, without necessarily losing their cultural mark. This approach will allow the craftsmen, for a similar part of trade, to obtain the best selling prices for their production.
For that purpose, the State has contacted a certain number of well-known designers who not only stick to the spirit of Moroccan heritage, but also observe the customers' new tendencies and tastes. As a result, these designers create innovative models, whose property rights are assigned to the Moroccan State which offers them to the craftsmen. The latter may draw their inspiration from such models in order to produce a Moroccan handicraft which is greatly based on culture and which meets the requirements and expectations of customers.
The first experience initiated within this framework concerns the jewellery. It was launched on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in Tiznit by Mr Adil Douiri, the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy.
The designer who has been selected to take part in this event is Mr Karim Tassi, a well-known designer in the world of fashion and jewellery.
This initiative will allow the craftsmen/jewelers of the town of Tiznit to be trained to produce these new models. It will also urge the public authorities, in charge of Handicraft, to make a close follow-up of these marketing actions, with a view to examining the real impact on the selling prices.
The experience of Tiznit is the first of a series of similar actions with other designers in the regions of the Kingdom, and more particularly in the Provinces of the South.
Besides jewellery, this approach is in the process of being generalized to other branches such as weaving. Its objective is to modernize the production and to improve the marketing of different branches at the level of the regions which produce Handicraft/Art.
