Signature of a convention relating to the development of cruise tourism in Agadir.

On November, 21, 2006, Mr Adil Douiri, the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft and Social Economy presided over the signature of a convention relating to the development of cruise tourism in Agadir, in the presence of Mr Rachid Filali, the Wali of the Souss-Massa-Draa Region. This convention is intended to develop cruise tourism and to declare Agadir's port a "stop base" par excellence by the year 2015.

This convention aims to be used as a reference framework concerning the different actions to be undertaken by all the signatory partners for the development of cruise tourism in Agadir's port, and that is all with a view to receiving 300 000 cruise passengers by the year 2015.

This specific convention is also intended to precise the rights and the obligations and to define the engagements relating to each one of the parties in terms (i) of the organization, infrastructures and improvements of the port and the city's tourist sites , (i) of the provision of services related to the cruise activities whether they are inside or outside the port, (iii) of the safety and cleanliness within the port compound and in the city, more particularly in the tourist sites and the circuits chosen by the cruise passengers and (iv) of the promotion and marketing of Agadir's destination.

In accordance with the provisions of this specific convention, a regional follow- up committee is created, under the aegis of the Wali. This committee will set itself the goal of putting into place and following the implementation of the convention's terms as regards the above mentioned engagements.
