05-02-2007

On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, Mr Driss Jettou, the Prime Minister, presided over the signature ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Moroccan Government and Orascom Hotel and Development company, for the development of a new tourist area on both sides of the Chbika oued, about 50km away from Tan Tan. This memorandum was preceded by the signature of an agreement protocol between CDG Development and Orascom Hotels & Development.

This project, which will be realized on an area of about 1500ha , with an investment of 10 billion DHS, will mark the start of a series of seaside resorts planned by the Government for the upgrading of the South Atlantic coasts.

Such a project of international scope provides for a welcome capacity of 8000 beds, that is 4000 rooms and 7000 residential beds, on top of entertainment, animation and leisure spaces. It will contribute to the creation of 4000 secure jobs in the hotel trade.

The finalization of technical studies is scheduled for the next six months; and while the work will be launched during the year 2008, the first hotel unit will open at the beginning of 2011.

The first stage of the project concerns an accommodation program, with a minimum capacity of 5000 beds in tourist establishments, 1250 residential units and some accompaniment and leisure equipment.

Orascom Hotels and Development is actively involved in the trade of promotion, territorial marketing and tourism. It has developed much expertise in the less developed sites, thanks to the development of integrated tourist areas (marinas, golf-courses, residences, hotels, commercial centers etc.). At present, the company is developing three other tourist areas in the Arab United Emirates, Oman and Switzerland .
