Signature of Agadir 2015 Tourist Regional Development Program

On Saturday April 7, 2007, the Prime Minister presided over the signature of Agadir 2015 Tourist Regional Development Program (PDRT), the first seaside program put in place by the Kingdom of Morocco within the framework of the "2010 Vision".

The Agadir 2015 PDRT aims to position Agadir as "a seaside destination of the future": a modern destination with sunny beaches, endowed with splendid, natural and cultural sites in the surrounding area, offering a wide range of events, leisure activities, golf and well-being products.

For that purpose, 5 major target clienteles have been selected : a clientele without any children in search of a relaxing experience at the seaside, a clientele without any children in search of beach and exotic new surroundings, a young clientele without any children in search of sports and ludic activities at the seaside and a family clientele in search of relaxation at the seaside in a safe and clean environment.

As regards the product-constituent over 2006-2015 period, it aims at :

• The consolidation of accommodation at the sea front through the creation of 5 new star hotels in Agadir, 4 seaside resorts in Taghazout, Tifnit, Tamaouanza and Aghroud, with a total capacity of 26.000 beds;
• The need to make 10 hotel units comply with international norms, with a total capacity of 5000 beds, that is 20% of the current hotel capacity;
• The development of an authentic accommodation capacity by creating Guests Houses in the Medina of Founty, with a capacity of 600 beds;
• The development of an accommodation capacity intended for the young clientele, with a capacity of 2500 beds;
• The development of 25 Tourist Residences with a capacity of 3200 beds;
• The development of an integrated tourist area intended for domestic tourism, with a capacity of 1.000 hotel beds and 2500 camping beds;

The action plan of the PDRT of Agadir over 2006-2015 period provides also for:

• The development and the need to bring the entertainment and leisure facilities up to the required standard (golf, shopping center, parks and a center of entertainment, leisure and catering.) ;
• The improvement of the urban and landscaped environment of the coast;
• The conception and establishment of a new visual identity as well as the putting in place of annual promotion plans ( institutional communication and co-marketing) in accord with the destination's development strategy;
• The creation of a Higher Institute of tourism in Founty;
• The consolidation of air transport through the opening of new lines linking the major strategic target markets.
