The Observer highlights the attractiveness
of Morocco among tourists

On Sunday, the British weekly, The Observer, highlighted the many facets of the Moroccan tourist sector, indicating that Morocco , with its age-old civilization and its rich and varied landscapes, provides tourists with a totally new experience.
In an article entitled “20 reasons to visit Morocco this winter”, the Sunday paper takes the readers into a journey through the main regions of the Kingdom, starting from the Casablanca metropolis which deserves, according to the publication, “to become ‘the Miami' of Morocco”, thanks to its glorious heritage of art deco.
Fez , the spiritual and cultural capital of the Kingdom, is the oldest imperial city of Morocco , The Observer says, emphasizing that the access of the British tourists to this city will be made easier thanks to the launch, by Atlas Blue company, of two low-cost weekly flights from London Gatwick airport, on December 19.
According to this paper, Fez which hosts plenty of palaces, mosques and Medersas, has managed to keep its old medina intact, highlighting also the ochre city of Marrakech with its Riads and its legendary tradition of entertainment.
For The Observer, Tangier, the international city par excellence, is living according to the rhythm of change, which has breathed new life into the city of the strait. Perceived formerly as a town of refuge for famous men of letters and artists such as Paul Bowles, Allen Ginsberg and Matiss, Tangier is surpassing other tourist destinations.
Chefchaouen, with its mountains and its atmosphere which brings peace and tranquillity, Taroudant, with its pink houses, gates, paths and its traditional markets, or else the seaside resort of Oualidia noted for its well-known lagoon, are as many destinations which make Morocco a tourist country of an exceptional value, the publication indicates, dwelling also on the role played by Ouarzazate in the Moroccan tourist landscape.
This oasis of the desert, which is more recognized under the name of “Ozzywood” or “Hoolywood of Africa”, hosts one of the biggest film studios in the world, attracting big names in the cinematographic art like Ridley Scott who has just directed his new film, a master piece called “Body of Lies”.(MAP)
The town hosts also the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a site listed as world heritage by the UNESCO, indicates The Observer, pointing out that Ouarzazate remains an excellent starting point for the exploration of the Dades Valley which abounds with ochre villages and luxuriant palm trees.
It must be emphasized that, at present, the Guardian/Observer Group is holding in Fez the 2008 edition of its prestigious operation “Travel Awards”, with the participation of 120 delegates made up of experts in tourism, the top 20 of the group's advertisers, the winners who are generally the leaders of tour operators, airlines, Tourism Offices represented in Great Britain as well as the leaders of the commercial and editorial teams of the Guardian/Observer Group.
It is about one of the most prestigious Travel Awards in Great Britain and in the world, since it is the readers of the different publications of the Guardian/Observer Group who decide on the prizes in the field of tourist activities in the United Kingdom , and that is all under the control of independent auditors.
The city of Fez and Morocco in general will benefit from a special coverage, before, during and after the event. Thus, a special Morocco and Fez will be published as part of the tourism supplement of the Guardian/Observer, entitled “Escape”, besides a double “Spread page” (DPS) which will be answered on-line in the site of the Guardian.
After the opening of such an operation, a collection of photos and comments on the event will be published online, thus allowing the host country to present its different tourist products to both the decision makers of the tourism industry and the leaders, publishers and readers of the group.
The whole communication of the operation will include the logo of the organizing country and the partners, more particularly the Regional Council of Tourism (CRT) of Fez
With a readership of 1,1 million persons, the daily paper, The Guardian, remains one of the most prestigious and rigorous papers in the United Kingdom, while the Sunday editing of the paper, The “Observer”, has at its disposal a readership of 1,3 million persons.
