Description of tourism professions and trades

As a part of the cooperation with the World Bank and IFC to help the Ministry of Tourism enhance its HR skills, different actions were planned such as updating Jobs and Skills Repositories (REC), training trainers and managers of vocational training establishments, as well as designing and launching an information platform on employment and training. The department of tourism has contributed to and helped with overhauling and designing management tools, namely Jobs and Trades Directories (REM), and Jobs and Skills Repositories (REC), as well as the development of the aforementioned platform.  

Jobs and Trades Directories (REM) and Jobs and Skills Repositories (REC)

These management tools are an essential reference for companies, the training sector, and intermediation operators on the labor market in terms of human resources management.

They enable:

  • Companies to better identify, express, and meet their needs as regards qualified human resources
  •  The training sector to develop programs that are as close as possible to the needs of companies
  •  Intermediation operators to have bridging tools between labour supply and demand.
  • Training and employment seekers to have careers advice and get a better visibility of potential trades.

Jobs and Trades Directories (REM) aim at providing numerous potential users with a framework comprising structured information about jobs and trades.

 Its main purpose is to facilitate the understanding of the job market by describing professions and jobs in order to help the authorities responsible of the vocational training to better distinguish between trades, trade families, and training fields and courses.

Jobs and Skills Repository is a document that describes jobs activities, provides information about performance indicators of each job, and presents the prospects of career evolution, as well as the necessary skills to practice these professions.

The achievement vision 2020’s objectives requires an ongoing professionalization of tourism trades. Management tools (REM-REC) allow a better understanding of tourism trades, namely: 

Hotel industry: this professional family gathers all known jobs related to the reception and running of hotels (receptionists, executive housekeepers, housekeepers…)

Catering: comprises all the jobs related to cooking (cooks, dishwashers) waitressing (banquet headwaiters, waiters) and  bar services (barmen…)

Travel agencies and tourism transport:  comprises the jobs related to the designing and sale of holidays (tourism agents, ticket agents…) and the transportation of tourists (tourist drivers).

Travel services and tour guides:  it comprises entertainment in vacation villages (entertainers), SPA staff, (SPA agents…) local tour guides, couriers, and natural areas guides (mountains and desert).

Promotion and tourism information sector: comprises jobs such as tourism development managers, tourism promotion managers, hosts, etc.

Designing and launching an information system for the tourism job market   (LMIS)

The information system will be developed by designing a comprehensive, reliable, and credible information exchange platform that will help steer the sector through a training / job adequacy. 

 

This action aims mainly at improving young people employability and enabling different actors to make informed decisions via an easy access to information, analysis and prospection of new partnerships in the training and employment field.
